    Strategic Goals
    20 out of 20 points
The nonprofit organization presents evidence of strategic thinking and goal setting through sharing their most important strategic goals.
Goal One: Provide informal academic education to girls located in the Obunga slum in Kisumu, Kenya. Our target girls are girls not enrolled in school but who still want to learn.
Goal Two: To provide a comprehensive and open education regarding sexual and reproductive health and provide a safe environment for girls to discuss freely the topics of menstruation and gender based violence.
Goal Three: Fundraising. All of our costs are covered by our donors so the vast majority of our board meetings focus on fundraising and finances. We do not allow any money spent without majority vote.

    Adaptability Statement
    30 out of 30 points
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Our organization originally started as a fund raising platform for a girls' school in Kisumu, Kenya after its founder (myself) went on a volunteer vacation and fell in love with the town of Obunga. For years, I simply asked for donations from friends and family and traveled (at my own cost) to Kenya annually to deliver supplies. The need there is overwhelming. While I was assisting the school, I couldn't help but notice how many children were still not in school. In this area, there's multiple reasons for this but most are related to a family's inability to pay for schooling or the need for older siblings to care for younger ones. Because of COVID, I could no longer travel so I felt crippled in my ability to help. Additionally, the girls' school had temporarily closed due to COVID and, unlike the US, since most homes there do not have electricity or extremely unreliable electricity, the girls simply stopped learning. During that time, I revamped the board and we became serious about addressing the need to still educate those who could not receive a formal education since these girls were at a higher risk for teen pregnancy and HIV infection (19% of individuals in this community are HIV positive and over half of new infections are girls under the age of 17). So we hired an accredited and licensed teacher and asked for assistance from the administrator from the girls' school we were previously working with. (He's a part time employee for us now). We opened a learning center in the heart of Obunga so girls can simply walk there when they can for an hour or 6 hours to learn what they can. We also supply school supplies, menstrual hygiene supplies, toiletries and a daily snack since 99% of the girls are food insecure (and we know that learning on an empty stomach is very difficult. :)) We've outgrown our space already! So we need to expand. The community has responded with open arms.
