Investment in Leadership Development
15 out of 15 points
The nonprofit provides evidence of investment in leadership development.
We are a 100% volunteer board and while we do not have formalized leadership development, many of our board members are experienced in business and some serve on other boards. We have started assigning mentors to new board members to increase their knowledge of how the board functions and also assign them to a committee so they can work and learn from others. In addition, we work with social media consultants who also work with many other local non-profits and in the past year we have updated our website, established regular communications on social media, and started working on additional PR plans. We also host a celebration ceremony (dinner during non-covid) and invite local government, educational, and business leaders in addition to the recipient scholars and their families.

Adaptability Statement
30 out of 30 points
The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year.
Our standard process was to interview prospective scholars in person and once selected have a celebratory dinner in May. The pandemic made us change quickly to an online mode.
We adapted our interview process using Zoom and Google Drive. We also worked quickly to adapt an online application process that we are now using for the second year and continue to adapt it to our needs such as scholarship application. We have started our 2022 selection process with 100% implementation of applications on-line, have included zoom Q&A sessions, and will interview students again using Zoom.
In 2020, we had to cancel our May celebration dinner due to Covid. In 2021, we implemented a successful virtual celebration to include scholars selected for the scholarship in addition to our donor and supporter constituency,.
We updated our website in 2020 and continue to enhance it. We realize many of the communications we used to have in person have moved online and having a clear website is critical to communicate effectively and efficiently. We have also completed our first year of implementing our social media strategy on LinkedIn and Facebook.
Our board meetings have had to continue via Zoom and we are becoming more adept at managing the organization in a virtual world. However, we do miss having our board getting together in person for an annual retread in which we conducted some strategic planning. That being said, we are focusing our strategy and vision on a couple of key components which will help the organization thrive until our mission is accomplished.
